Bit lazy to describe what exactly did I like in this story in particular because that might turn out to be everything. The way it fit so neatly into canon - practically neater than the canon; I almost wish it was. Such oddly believable ghosts. The slight tweaks to the episodes bringing sense into them. Adorable, sort of innocent Ianto, unfailingly interesting to follow, and I thoroughly enjoyed Jack's characterisation and his incongruously convincing 'darlings'. And so on. Great stuff.
On second thought, the mystery behind Ianto's ability remains a McGuffin, not that that makes the story any less delightful, and - did Jack really faint? ...I take it that he hadn't fully recovered from cryogenics by then.
Here's to you not giving up on Torchwood entirely and exploring those ideas you mentioned in the A/N, and even more. =)
