I'm absolutely delighted you managed to inadvertently prompt this. It was definitely fun to write - coming up with various scenarios in which they could meet, especially!
I think the Doctor's a little abrupt, definitely - I was sort of channelling him the way he was during the YTNW eps. Uncomfortable with Jack but realising he shouldn't be, and therefore a bit out of sorts and brusque with him. I rather imagine that's why Jack chose not to confide in him... well, that and he's had a century or so to grow more taciturn.
Of course, the saddening part is that all those other universes (and Iantos) no longer have a Jack. The hopeful part, I think, is that Jack still remembers them, and goes on for them. In a way, he's a living memorial - which is exactly why I put in that line about him wanting to live up to his "dreams". They remind him of what he could have been, had he not been immortal, and that's a goal he can constantly work towards.
Aaaand once again, a very long (and late; sorry!) reply to you; hope you don't mind too much! =D As always, thank you for reading and reviewing. I'm very glad you enjoyed it.
