It's a bit bitter-sweet, yeah. I console myself with thinking that Ianto in any universe is strong and capable of finding the best possible life available to him. And I do very much think that it's the thought of what he's capable of that drives Jack - he's a kind of living memorial to them, and I don't think he'll ever forget any of the Iantos he's met.
