I am compelled to defend myself after reading a couple of the above comments. Runya, thank you for understanding that Hiyoshi's in no way suicidal. I had a little discussion on that very topic with a friend of mine who doesn't even know who Hiyoshi is - and that just allowed us to have a nice little insightful conversation about death. Part of that is what Hiyoshi feels - see if you understand, why don't you?
Me: Why did two people say it was suicidal when it wasn't? That was the farthest thing from my mind when I was writing it. Accepting death, wanting to die in a certain way, doesn't mean you're suicidal. Right? Areale: I know what you mean. No, you're not. As a matter of fact I am inclined to think most of those who want to die are simply EVADING the responsibility of living, while those who accept death, are resigned, whatever, could still be afraid of it, but they're still going on, you know? Waiting is a horrible thing. Me: Exactly. And those who live sometimes aren't. Living, I mean. But they go on because they know they have to. They live because they're too strong to kill themselves. Areale: Or perhaps because they're too weak. I mean, it would be much cleaner to simply kill yourself if nothing is getting anywhere. But they can't, see, cos maybe they're afraid of it. The dying. Have you heard of, "I'm not afraid of death, only of dying"? Me: I have. But wouldn't killing yourself just be taking the easy way out? The harder thing is to live and make something of your life. Areale: Oh yes definitely. But it's my theory that WHATEVER you do, dying isn't very easy.
Defensive? Who, me? I'm just a little injured that you don't seem to understand where Hiyoshi's coming from. Maybe because I understand it.
