Well, all my stories seem to inevitably lead to Ianto, at any rate.

The funny thing is, the intial plan was to end with Gwen. It was a bit of a challenge to myself, to wrap up with a character I'm not fond of. Clearly, I failed. The plan was to let Jack see Gwyneth in Gwen... but the more I thought about Gwyneth, the less of Gwen and the more of Ianto I saw in her. Like you said, they're both quiet, gentle souls, and it's exactly that which lets them get so close to Jack. That's the type he trusts.

And they've both got quite a bit of snark and fire hidden under the politeness. (Look at the way Gwyneth reacted when Rose was being patronising!) Perfect comparison, really.

(And so Ianto took over the fic. Sneaky little thing, he is.)

I think S1!Jack was still desperate to believe he hadn't been abandoned - and that, as much as his desire for a cure, was behind his leaving. S2!Jack has a) realised that the Doctor did abandon him, and b) gone through a year of torture. Both are incentives to come back to his team instead of staying with the Doctor.

And like Prof Jacqui said - if he's staying in the time, it's a lot smarter to build an attachment of some sort. *coughIantocough*

Once again, I seem to have blithered on while replying to you. Oh, well. *sheepish grin* As always, thanks for reading and for the wonderful review. =D
