I write a lot of fics involving cops, warfare, fighting, abuse, injuries, medical treatment etc, so I naturally end up reading a lot about those topics. My sister likes to joke that if the government ever got wind of my library borrowing history, they'd flag me as a Suspicious Character. Checked out one too many books on weaponry, I suppose. *grins*
I remember I once went and searched for the right equation to determine how long it would take a man to free-fall 200 feet, just so I could get one throwaway line right: Captain Jack Harkness fell two hundred feet in three-point-five seconds. It was just enough time to wonder...
Are you planning on writing a commentary on it, or just asking people what sort of research they do, or something else altogether? I know I'd like to find out what other writers think is necessary research, and what's just gravy. =D
