“Tea-boy, control your damn lizard!” Owen bellowed.

“If you wouldn’t drop food all over yourself, Myfanwy wouldn’t think you were dinner,” Gwen retorted. “Pass the potatoes, Tosh.”

“Here you go.” Toshiko handed the plate over, then firmly pushed Myfanwy’s beak out of the way. “No.

The pteranodon backed up and sat down on the floor, eyeing the festive spread with a distinctively calculating look in its eye.

“She’s going to go for it once our backs are turned,” Owen grumbled. “Isn’t there any bread sauce? What kind of Christmas dinner doesn’t have bread sauce?”

“I thought I saw some earlier,” Toshiko said. “When Ianto was bringing the food in.”

“Ianto?” Gwen called, tentatively.

The three of them fell silent and listened carefully.

Owen shook his head after a few moments. “I’m not going to check,” he said.

“Well, I’m sure he’s busy,” Toshiko said diplomatically. “And he did tell us to go ahead with the meal. Let’s save pudding for when we’re all together, though.”

“It’s Ianto who wanted this anyway, he should be here,” Owen complained, spearing a slice of turkey and pulling it onto his plate.

“Mostly for Jack,” Toshiko said. “He said Jack’s never really done Christmas before, not properly. Ianto decided they’d do it right this year. Jack’s been helping with the decorating and everything.”

“Would that explain the sudden explosion of mistletoe?” Gwen asked with a smirk. “There was an awful lot of it in the archives, when I was helping Ianto earlier.”

“I’m sure their only goal was to liven up the place and bring some Christmas cheer to us,” Toshiko said blandly.

“To them, more like,” Own said. “Oi, you overgrown lizard, leave my shoes alone!”

Jack leaned against Ianto’s chest as he watched Myfanwy make a valiant attempt at ripping Owen’s shoe off his foot. “Thank you,” he said softly. “I didn’t think…”

“You’re welcome.” Ianto pressed a light kiss against his neck, then pushed him forward, stepping around him. “Come on. Christmas isn’t complete without a family dinner.”

Jack smiled and followed Ianto into the chaos.
